Brown Sugar Bacon Grissini

Brown Sugar Bacon Grissini

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Starting off 2021 with one of our favorite appetizers of all time! You are going to love this simple recipe that is sure to wow a crowd wherever you go — and yes, we say a crowd because it’s a new year and we have to believe in the power of positivity!

This appetizier is great for any occasion, only takes 3 ingredients, and is virtually impossible to mess up! You’re going to want to keep this recipe handy the next time you need to bring an app!

Ingredients:

Grissini (thin breadsticks)

1 package regularly sliced bacon

1-2 cups brown sugar

Instructions:

1. Line a baking sheet completely with aluminum foil or parchment paper (this is crucial for ease and clean up).

2. Take grissini and break in half so you have pretty uniform sized pieces. Breaking in half is optional, but we find the bite size is better as an app and goes further!

3. Take your bacon and cut in half, and then cut again long-ways — you want pieces of bacon that are almost as long as your grissini and thin. This makes it much easier to wrap the bacon on the grissini and for it to stay!

4. Wrap each grissini in a piece of bacon, going diagonally down so you are covering as much of the grissini as you can!

5. Lay out 1 cup of brown sugar (to start) in a pie dish or plate. Then take each bacon-wrapped grissini and roll in the sugar, pressing lightly to coat the entire stick!

6. Line them up on your sheet and bake at 400° for 15-20 minutes — you want the bacon to get crispy! Check them half way as you may want to roll them a little bit. Do not worry if the brown sugar starts to pool around them; this is normal!

7. Once they are done, take them out, and let them cool *slightly* for a couple of minutes. Take tongs and give them one last roll in all that extra gooey goodness before plating!

*Be careful not to let them cool too much as the sugar will get hard and they will stick!*

8. Serve and enjoy!!!

We also tried them with gluten-free grissini this time and it worked perfectly!

On The 12th Day Of Christmas…

On The 12th Day Of Christmas…

Merry Christmas to all! For our 12th and final post of this series we are showing how we spent Christmas Day!

It was an amazing day with family — we had a picture-perfect snowfall, we gathered and opened gifts, we cooked, reminisced, shared stories, had many facetimes and phone calls with loved ones and stayed in our matching pajamas all day long.

We feel so incredibly blessed this holiday season for our family and the health of those closest to us! This year has forced us to simplify some things, take breaks and reflect — although it’s not what we imagined, it’s important to make the most of the time we are given and to appreciate all the small things in our lives!

We woke up to a perfectly white Christmas that inspired us to keep things light, bright and simple for our Christmas Day table!

The main piece of this table were these adorable soft white reindeer, with their scarves being our pop of color!

We love to add a touch of white birch to an ivory tablescape to mix in texture!

We kept the table tree simple with a string of white lights and mini snowballs.

We added more texture with our natural chargers.

These Santa plates are vintage! Our loving aunt gifted them to us — they are hand painted from 1989! They were the most special touch for Christmas Day!

We used a cream shimmer napkin and added a mini green wreath as a napkin ring!

We love a holiday-inspired butter design! Our meal consisted of a classic pasta dish with pork meatballs, roasted asparagus, bread (made fresh this morning), filet mignon, baked potatoes and more!

And it wouldn’t be Christmas if we didn’t end the night with a crème de menthe parfait!

We hope you all had a wonderful and blessed holiday!

Merry Christmas Eve Everyone! For our 11th post, we are just going to be showcasing our table and a look into our Christmas Eve dinner! This year was much more intimate than usual, but it didn’t lack in love, Christmas spirit or food!

We just want to express how thankful we are this holiday season for our friends and family, the heath of those closest to us, and all the love we get to share each day! We pray for a happy and healthy new year for all!

In addition to our red yarn reindeer, we set this table using our red and green plaid chargers and a white linen runner, layered with a sheer gold shimmer table scarf!

For an extra touch, we folded our red linen napkins in the shape of a christmas tree!

We replaced traditional white candles with these red sparkly ones for a touch of glam! Along with some gold flatware and crystal water glasses, wine glasses and champagne coups!

We kept up with our lifelong tradition of no meat on Christmas Eve before midnight…we made tortellini Alfredo, sautéed broccoli, zucchini fritters, stuffed baby peppers, baked fish, shrimp and more!

Charcuterie Chalet

Charcuterie Chalet

Charcuterie Chalet, Prosciutto Palace, Salami Shack, whatever you want to call it, this house looks amazing and tastes even better!

For the 10th Day of Christmas we decided to do a gingerbread house…with a twist! Instead of a sweet creation, we used our creativity and built this savory house!

We took the base of a gingerbread house and covered it in whipped cream cheese…laying the foundation for us to top it in our favorite charcuterie items. We used salami, soppresata, prosciutto, green and black olives, pomegranate seeds, rosemary and more!

We honestly have to say this was so much fun! We love making an antipasto for every holiday in our house, so this really combined one of our favorite things with a classic holiday trend!

We started with a classic build yourself gingerbread house and covered it in *whipped* cream cheese! The whipped cream cheese was key here as it was lighter and easier to spread!

We created a shiplap front using cheese and finished each side with four triscuits!

Creating our favorite part — the rosemary wreath! Finished with a red and white string bow!

Made this adorable little penguin out of a fresh mozzarella pearl, black olives and a carrot!

We made our roof snow-covered with ricotta and sprinkled with grated cheese!

We hope you try this with your friends and family! Please tag us if you do! 📸: @allinaandmarreana

Winter Wonderland

For the 9th Day of Christmas, we are showcasing another one of our winter tablescapes! We think this table is so white, sparkly and dreamy! It encapsulates everything we love about a fresh snowfall!

We started with a cream runner, topping with a faux snow layer with specks of silver in it. We arranged a galvanized village — consisting of all different sizes and shapes of little houses, silos and barn-shaped pieces.

These down-swept, sparkle-flocked lit trees were the best part of this table in our opinion! They bring in the perfect amount of greenery and sparkle!

We used classic white dishes with a silver charger and cream, sheen napkin. We finished this table with a sparkly white snowflake on top of our plates!

We love creating different tables that represent all different feelings and the things we love about each season! This is the perfect way to express yourself and bring out your creative side! Our family always loves when we decide to put together a beautiful table for our family dinners!

Get In The Christmas Spirit

Get In The Christmas Spirit

With Christmas being just a few days away, it’s time to make sure we are all in the holiday spirit! For Day 8 of our 12 Days of Christmas series we are sharing a few ways to instantly get in the Christmas spirit and ready to enjoy the holidays. Our holiday gatherings will all look a bit different this year compared to the past but our traditions will be enjoyed even more next Christmas season. It’s important to enjoy the magic this time of year brings in whatever ways we can!

Give Back

Giving back is one way to reflect during the holidays and share your blessings with your community. There are so many ways to give back and help other local families have wonderful holidays. In addition to local giving, our favorite way to give online during this season is through Samaritan’s Purse. This link takes you to their website where you can take part in their “Operation Christmas Child”. You can make a shoebox online customized with toys and necessities for the children and they will be directly sent to them. This is a personalized way to help children during the holiday season.

Christmas Lights

Christmas lights tour! Looking at Christmas lights is such a fun way to enjoy this time of year. Grab a hot drink to go, jump in the car and turn on your favorite holiday station or playlist. Going for a drive by all of the decorated houses while listening to Christmas music is a foolproof way to enjoy holiday cheer!

Cozy Night

The next way to get ready for the upcoming holiday is to watch your favorite Christmas movie. We love watching the Hallmark channel this time of year. Non stop Christmas and holiday movie content! Not to mention, there is always a happy, feel good ending in the movies. Make yourself some of our Cranberry Walnut Anise Biscotti and drink a hot cocoa bomb then curl up with a cozy blanket and turn on the movie! The perfect night.

Antipasto Tree

Another way to embrace the holiday season is in the kitchen. Challenging yourself to cook or bake something new is always a fun adventure. One of our favorite Christmas themed appetizers to make was this olive tree using a variety of olives, sweet peppers and fresh mozzarella balls. Another great idea is to make a recipe that has been passed down to you. Whenever we make a special Christmas cookie or baked good passed down from a family member it is always a festive tradition and great feeling.

Cookie Boxes

For the 7th day of our 12 Days of Christmas we are showing how we decided to make up these adorable cookies boxes for some of the people we can’t see this holiday season!

After spending the week baking, we iced our cookies, topping each with our favorite festive sprinkles!

We got different size boxes and filled them with an array of cookies — a couple of each kind! We lined our boxes with black and white check paper, tied with red and white string and finished with a sparkly gift tag!

We hope to bring a little joy to our loved ones this week by sharing some of our cookies with them!

Christmas Cocktails

Holiday themed cocktails are just one of the many ways to get into the holiday spirit. We wanted to feature some of our favorite winter flavors like salted caramel and cranberry. Below we are sharing two drinks and how we made them!

WINTER WHISKEY GINGER

This cozy winter drink tastes like everything we love about the holiday season! We combined salted caramel whiskey, ginger ale and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. We garnished the drink with thin slices of apple and a few cranberries.

CITRUS CHRISTMAS CHEER

This drink is for all the seltzer lovers out there — this is a refreshing fruity cocktail. We mixed a shot of vodka, splash of orange juice, splash of cranberry, a squeeze of a fresh orange and topped it all with ginger ale over ice; then garnished with an orange slice and sugared cranberries.

Baking Spirits Bright

One of our favorite holiday traditions is baking all our favorite kinds of christmas cookies and assembling cookie trays for our family gatherings.

This year things are different, and we aren’t able to gather like we usually would… So, this year we spent the week with our mom baking almost 15 different kinds of cookies! We spent the days listening to Christmas music, mixing cookies and baking from morning till night!

This has been such a special bonding experience with our mom that we wouldn’t trade for anything! Keep scrolling to see photos of our week of baking! Check back on the blog to see how we ice these cookies and how we plan to specially box these up for our closest friends and family!
